You are the earth.

i looked up at the night sky and wonder, how many stars are there. The answer? 1000000000. one hundred thousand million. So, how many of the stars have come near enough to become meteors to hit the earth, well, its 1 million. but, only 25 0000 of them have landed.

Now lets say, if stars are people you might end up with, how hard is it to find your one and only soulmate, the chance is ? 0.025%.

Plus, there are too many to pick. Whats worse, you might think, the next star might not be that much different from the other stars.

And lets say you are lucky enough to finally find 3 of your favorite stars,but they both shine the same, it adds in more difficulty to your decision for finding a soulmate.

Now,lets say you get even luckier, the star you like has landed, you would wonder, what if the star fall for me purely for my gravity.

And a sadder news is that, some stars only last a year, and after a star dies, it might becomes a blackhole or result in a supernova.

At this point of my post...in case you haven't realized. The star that last a really long time, and always has been for you, and it might not shine 24 hours in front of your eyes but still shining upon you...

Not exactly the diary people, so i'd love to say a little about my trainin' instead.

Caught some bruises in the training center these couple of weeks. The recent injury is my left foot which was caused during a particular sparring. At this moment, i still can not access any hardcore physical training, which is really frustrating. Remember my first sparring with the heavyweight boxing champion, i didn't strike much durin the early match, then i heard the coach shouted '20seconds'. That was the time i landed 3 head combos. But that didn't end well, he charged in and landed non-stop combos and caused my mouth to bleed, Gotta get a mouthguard soon. Gracie Jiu-jitsu hasn't really caught my passion untill these times. I just can't wait to get back to have more tactical training.

My 'Brother' ,the Champion of that gym, has been givin a lot of helpful advices in my stance and striking, really do appreciate it. Hope the fight this month will turn out great.

So now im back here in KL, despite my sprained leg, i went to the workout center to work on my upper body. Without my legs its really kinda hard to sweat.

And lastly, happy new year 2010.

As i mentioned months ago that i really want to go to Afghanistan, one of the most dangerous place in the world. Well today i was searching through NewYorkTimes and found a couple of really interesting pictures of it.

Today, not much has changed in this undeveloped part of the world, and its communities continue to live isolated from Kabul or Islamabad. The millions of development dollars spent since the start of the war are seen only as the plane starts making its descent toward the Afghan capital. Suddenly the bare mountain ranges and isolated villages transform into an oasis of densely packed building structures and newly paved avenues that go on for miles. How does globalization affect your country?

The world is becoming more globalized, there is no doubt about that. The sociologist, Anthony Giddens, defines globalisation as a decoupling of space and time, emphasising that with instantaneous communications, knowledge and culture can be shared around the world simultaneously.

While that sounds promising, the current form of globalization, neoliberalism, free trade and open markets are coming under much criticism. Thomas L. Friedman, the author of The World Is Flat, stated that the world is simply being flattened with 3 different eras of globalisation. The first lasted from 1492, when Columbus set sail, opening trade between the old world and the new world until 1800. The second great era of gobalisation lasted roughly from 1800 to 2000, interrupted by the Great Depression and World Wars one and two. The key agent of change, the dynamic force driving global integration, was multinational companies. When it comes to 2000, we have entered the 3rd era of globalisation, it gives the newfound power for individuals to collaborate and compete globally when the internet and telecommunication became popular and common in our daily lives.

Neoliberalism, in theory, is essentially about making trade between nations easier, it requires the removal of various controls deemed as barriers to free trade such as tariffs, regulations, certain standards, laws, legislation, regulatory measures and restrictions on capital flows and investment. Today then, neoliberal policies are seeing positives and negatives. Under free enterprise, there have been innovative products. Growth and development for some have been immense. Unfortunately, for most people in the world there has been an increase in poverty and the innovation and growth has not been designed to meet immediate needs for many of the world's people. Global inequalities on various indicators are sharp. For example, some 3 billion people, or half of humanity, live on under 2 dollars a day. 86 percent of the world's resources are consumed by the world's wealthiest 20 percent. Joseph Stiglitz, former World Bank Chief Economist, Nobel Laureate in Economics, notes that economic globalization in its current form risks exacerbating poverty and increasing violence if not checked, because it is impossible to separate economic issues from social and political issues. In most testbooks and classrooms, not only are these 3 fields( Economics, political science, history) of study separated, but they are futher compartmentalized into separate subfields, obscuring the close interconnections between them.

As referring to the perils of globalisatoin. The interest of powerful nations and corporations are shaping the terms of world trade. In democratic countries, they are shaping and affecting the ability of elected leaders to make decisions in the interests of their people. Elsewhere they are promoting narrow political discouse and even supporting dictatorship and the "stability" that it brings for their interest. This is to the detriment of most people in the world, while increasingly fewer people in proportion are prospering, most Malaysians are not outcasted. In fact, despite economy liberalism has leavened the pace of our country development, as behoofs are permeating into respectable aspects like education, health care, standards of living,etc. It is blemishing and worsening the gap between rich and poor, moreover, Americanisation is flawing our local unique culture and influencing our teenagers. It seems unsustainable to allow our teenagers to carry out Americanism on the land of our home country. This is actually very contradictive, because in order for "free market" to be "free", the exchange of labour, land, currency, and consumer goods must not be encumbered by elements of psychosocial integration such as clan loyalties, village responsibilities, guild or union rights, charity, family obligations, social roles or religious values. Cultural traditions "distort" the free play of the laws of supply and demand, and thus must be suppressed in order to achieve "free markets". In free market economies, for example, people are expected to move to where jobs can be found, and to adjust their work lives and cultural tastes to the demand of a global market.

The emergence of environmental issue has become a major concern of people all over the world. The question appeared after environment is bady bruised and contaminated, who's responsible for the damages? Not the owners of the company, the shareholders. Not the managers or employees, not the community, not the government. This was an unintended consequence of the corporate structure brought by globalisation, the very aspects of the company's design that made it so robust, so able to survive changes in leadership, in the economy, in technology, were the aspects that led to this result pollution that no one wanted, and everyone would pay for.

One of the arguments made for gobalization is that the world should move futher towards becoming interdependent on one another. It probably bears some merits, this way, no one will want to war with others, because they depend on each other to keep their economies alive. This sounds like a wonderful solutions to prevent future horrors such as the previous world wars.

To conclude, globalisation is happening, it is irreversible and unavoidable. The pros and cons are very controvertible. In fact, large and small protests have occured for years to cast down some WTO meetings, also at IMF, World Bank, G8 and other such summits. Protests are seen today have typically been against the current forms of globalization and the marginalization it is causing, as well as the increasing disparities between the rich and the poor that it has predictably led to already.

As i get older, uncertainty about love and happiness tends to get bigger along the way. Happiness seems like a black hole that gets wider and bigger as day goes by, it gets harder to fill stuffs in it as well. I remember when i was younger i could spend my whole evening at a simple playground with a couple of friends laughing all the time.

Now i have to sleep without my eyelids staring blindly at the ceiling wondering what to look after, to eventually cram the black hole.

I have plans, but more importantly, im also planning to be surprised. Not plainly focusing on great wealth or a success that is based fully on our own definitions.

Sometimes it really helps to state out a piece of mind which allows me to get a peace of mind. I want to be a psychologist, I like journalism, I can do business. Yet, i can only end up being one. The big problem is, which one, is going to let me cram the big black hole of life.

Also there is one thing ive wanted to say a long time ago, To live, you have to love. There isn't much differences between live and love, the only difference is an I and an O.

note:Frankly, this is not a demonstration of writing an essay. I was simply practicing writing discussion and argumentative essays before the GP test. Thought of sharing it, albeit the language standard that i possess at the moment is not as good as most of the people.

First i'd write out the scopes, agreements and refutes.

Scope- mass media, journalism.

Agree- mass media is pressured with financial goals, to emphasis on a larger portion of entertainment rather than information; Veracity of a news is difficult to be justified.

Refute- Mass media still serves its purposes.

Introduction paragraph:

Mass media has been accused of trying to set the agenda for the society and the government. Outside of the academic environment, a harsh and seemingly ever-growing debate has appeared, concerning how the mass media distorts the standpoint of a nation and in the meantime engendering negative stereotypes all over the world. It is censured for influencing political behaviours as well. Few would argue with the notion that the institutions of the mass media are important to contemporary politics. Another main argumentation is that, can the mass media be trusted with disclosures on anything? While we all agree that full disclosure or an objective reporting would be helpful, this assumes that the mass media would use the information in a thoughtful manner, a dubious manner)

Supporting paragraph I:

Large segments of the mass media are believed to be pressured, let us say, by financial goals, therefore it has adopted "infotainment"(stories that are short on information and long on entertainment) as their standard. A story's drama content is what appeared most germane. As a result, the mass media focus on trivial, pruprient, incidents. This obscures the truth and speads outward in a kind of journalistic law, in which bad reporting drives out good reporting. Unfortunately, one cannot rely on a large portion of the mass media to practice the responsible, thoughtful journalism exemplifications.

Supporting paragraph II:

Indeed, story always comes first than the facts. Reportings now are presumed to have offer only a whiff of authenticity. Audiences now are often confused by the reliability of the veracity of the press. In addition, there are so much news so much the same every now and then. New templates are so similar worldwide. Much of the international coverage is now handled by agencies, so pictures and sources are more similar than they are different. Context and background are sacrificed regularly to the demands of the quick headline and easy soundbite.

Rebuttal:

I concede that the journalism is in question of many audiences. However, there might have much undistorted images than we have known, as a matter of fact, some of us simply prejudice against the mass media and in the meanwhile have absolutely no clue at all about the falsity of the press. In addiction, to prevent the institutionalized subjective reportings, many departments and institutions are already on the move. Another source of this problem is dued to the passive audiences and receivers. Propaganda activities of the mass media approach directly to the mass society and general public, sometimes compelling the people to be passive towards the press. Gradually, we lose the propensity to leach the messages delivered by the media.

Conclusion:

In despite of all the commentary above, mass media still remains as a sticking point of transmitting all the current affairs throughout the world. Without mass media, it would take months for us to realise what is happening at the other end of the world. In sum, i'd conclude that Objective reporting is not dead, but in a risk of fading away.
